Mentors, experiences and opportunities
Meet people, try things and go places that might otherwise stay out of reach.
A young person cannot choose an opportunity they have never encountered. Clootie brings trusted mentors, visiting professionals, practical experiences and wider networks into a familiar local setting.
Opportunity areas
Education
College and university visits, student ambassadors, subject tasters and application information.
Careers and employment
Workplace visits, career conversations, work experience, interviews and employer projects.
Practical and technical
Engineering, mechanics, construction, coding, digital creativity, robotics and enterprise.
Creative
Music, recording, art, design, writing, performance and publishing.
Sport and outdoor
Accessible sport, tennis, outdoor experiences, youth awards and team challenges.
Community and independence
First aid, volunteering, cooking, leadership and community projects.
Who might contribute
Contributors may include university and college students, graduates, academics, doctors and other health professionals, artists, authors, musicians, engineers, entrepreneurs, employers, public-service professionals and tradespeople. We particularly value people whose background or journey can resonate with local young people.
Removing barriers
Transport, fees, equipment and unfamiliarity can prevent rural families from accessing opportunities. Where funding allows, Clootie will treat these as programme costs rather than expecting families to solve them alone.
Quality and safeguarding
Every contributor is briefed on the programme, inclusion, boundaries and safeguarding. Specialist activities are delivered with appropriate checks, consent, staffing and risk assessment.
